Officers leading Wings carried their initials as identification letters on their allotted aircraft and some senior officers also followed this practice.This Spitfire, PV 159, was visiting Debden and the letters ‘RDE’ identify the aircraft as that used by Wg Cdr R. Deacon Elliott, who was with 84 Group Support Unit at that time.
